New CCTV footage comes in Jamia violence case, Protesters accused of hiding in library

A new twist has come in the case of Jamia CCTV footage. Jamia Millia Islamia students and alumni organizations Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC) released a 45-second video the late night of 15 February. This video was being told of 15 December 2019. On this day, Delhi Police entered the Jamia Campus and fired tear gas shells and lathi-charged. While releasing the video, the JCC claimed that the police used force on the students studying in the library.

Now India Today has got new footage. This footage is being told just before the video released by the JCC. In this footage, a boy is seen pushing people inside the library. After closing the door, one can be seen dragging the computer desk in front of the library door. So that no one can open the door easily. One also has a stone in his hand. It is being said that the perpetrators of violence took refuge in the library. And as soon as the police arrived, they opened the book and started the drama of reading. At present, the Crime Branch SIT is investigating this CCTV.

But to what extent can the police lathi-charge be justified? The question is, if the police entered the library to find violent protesters, then why were common students beaten up? The police could have taken the protesters into custody, yet why was the force used?

Congress general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor expressed their anger at the video released by the JCC. He questioned the Delhi Police and the Central Government.

On this whole matter, Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said,

Be it JNU, Jamia or any other institute, all are very good. I have been in favor of this from the beginning, whoever will work to bring down the dignity of these institutions will not be tolerated at any cost.

JCC is not part of Jamia

On this video, Ahmad Azeem, Public Relations Officer of Jamia Millia Islamia said,

The video of police brutality in the Zakir Hussain Library of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has come to our notice. This video has not been released by the university.

JCC is not an official unit of the university. The JCC statement is not the official version of the university.

The truth of both the videos has not been confirmed yet. It will be known only after the completion of a police investigation, what is the truth behind these videos?
