The work of bringing back the workers of Uttar Pradesh stranded in different parts of the country due to the lockdown will be completed in the next two-three days. Giving information to this effect, a senior Uttar Pradesh government official said on Thursday that other states have informed that their migrants desirous of return are not here or in very small numbers.
Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Information Avneesh Awasthi said, “The entire campaign to bring back migrant workers by trains and buses will end in the next two-three days.” So far, around 26 to 27 lakh migrants have returned. ”He said that most migrant workers from states like Gujarat, Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana etc. have returned and the number of workers returning from these states are now in negligible quantity.
He said that so far 1,411 trains have come in the state for migrant workers and in the next few days their number will be 1,551. Awasthi said that now trains are coming to the state from Maharashtra and some southern states, while 490 trains came from Gujarat, 327 from Maharashtra, 228 from Punjab, 94 from Delhi, 53 from Karnataka and 33 from Rajasthan.
